The following details the troubleshooting steps for abrasive leakage at the outlet of a shot blasting machine:
Step 1: Initial Inspection
Switch off the shot blasting machine and ensure safe working conditions. Visually inspect the entire outlet area thoroughly. Check for obvious damage to seals, gaskets and all components that may cause leakage. Check for loose connections or misaligned parts around the outlet opening.
Step 2: Inspect and Replace Sealing Components
Rubber Seals
Carefully remove the old rubber seals around the outlet. Examine the seals for wear, tears or hardening. Replace them immediately if any of these defects are found. Select high-quality rubber seals matching the dimensional specifications of the shot blasting machine. Install new seals carefully; ensure they are fully seated and fit tightly against the machine housing to form an airtight seal.
Sealing Gaskets
Inspect the sealing gaskets between all connected components at the outlet section. Remove and replace damaged or degraded gaskets with new ones. Use gaskets of correct thickness and material to achieve reliable sealing performance.
Step 3: Adjust Machine Operating Parameters
Abrasive Feed Flow
Open the shot blaster control panel. Gradually reduce the abrasive feed flow if it is set excessively high, and observe changes in outlet leakage. Find the optimal feed flow rate that delivers sufficient cleaning effect without generating excessive internal pressure or abrasive leakage.
Conveyor Speed
Slow down the conveyor speed if it runs too fast. A lower conveyor speed stabilizes workpiece movement and reduces abrasive splashing at the outlet. Test multiple conveyor speeds to balance production efficiency and abrasive leakage control.
Step 4: Install Auxiliary Sealing Devices
Curtain Seals
Fit flexible curtain seals made of rubber strips or plastic sheets at the machine outlet. Hang the curtain seals to fully cover the outlet gap without obstructing workpiece transit. Adjust curtain height and tension to effectively block abrasive escape.
Air Curtains
Install air curtain equipment at the outlet. Adjust air pressure and airflow direction to build a powerful air barrier preventing abrasive spillage. Monitor air curtain performance and fine-tune parameters as required.
Step 5: Regular Cleaning and Routine Maintenance
Outlet Area Cleaning
Clean the outlet zone periodically using brushes, industrial vacuum cleaners or compressed air. Remove accumulated debris, dust and abrasive particles that impair sealing performance. Keep the outlet clean and free of blockages at all times.
Full Machine Routine Inspection
Carry out regular overall inspections of the complete shot blasting machine. Check for loose bolts, damaged assemblies and worn spare parts. Tighten loose fasteners; repair or replace defective components as needed.
Follow the official maintenance manual issued by the equipment manufacturer to keep the machine in optimal working condition and lower the risk of recurring abrasive leakage.
